15 Things Global Warming Opposers Want You To Believe
Feb 14th, 2007 by Edwin
Even though there are enough proof that global warming is happening, some people still think its a myth. Check out what these people say against global warming. It can be easily stated that they are completely wrong.
1. Global warming is a myth made by politics and media.
The following picture is enough to prove that there is global warming.

It should be also noted that the number of vehicles and industries has grown significantly after 1950s, correspondingly we can see increase in average temperature. It is true that media is providing more coverage to these topics. But that is the only way we can make more people believe the existence of global warming and thereby persuading them to reduce usage of carbon emitting fossil fuels.
2. Global warming is just part of a natural cycle.
Until a recent time the climate changes has been quite natural. The expansion of human civilization has resulted in elevated volumes of Carbon dioxide on earth’s surface. Increased volumes of carbon dioxide and other green house gases will trap more heat from solar energy thereby turning the planet hot. Human intervention has accelerated the natural warming phenomenon.
3. Climate scientists are still in debate over global warming.
It is true that there are few global warming skeptics, but they are not enough to prove global warming is a myth. Climate scientists around the globe is conducting various experiments on global warming and almost 99% of the results are similar proving global warming is a real phenomenon. IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the organization studying about climate change has just released a report stating that humans are the important cause of global warming.
4. Water vapor is the major component of green house gases, why not control its release rather than CO2 ?
It is true that water vapour is the major component of green house gases present in atmosphere. The amount of water vapor present in atmosphere is contributed by the temperature and it is not controllable by humans. The other major component humans can control is carbon dioxide, thus we emphasis all our efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
5. Human effect is negligible on the vast carbon cycle of earth.
Unfortunately that is not true. The carbon cycle corresponds to the inter exchange of carbon between 4 major reservoirs namely atmosphere, biosphere, oceans and sediments. And this environmental process adds zero gallon tons of carbon to the eco system maintaining the carbon balance. But human intervention in this carbon cycle by burning of fuels has attributed to a net increase of 174 Gallon tons of carbon. This in turn increases the CO2 in the atmosphere leading to global warming.
6. Behind the scenes scientists are highly paid for skewing the result of climate studies.
Most of the climates studies are funded by corporations or governments. Studies supporting global warming are barely running on commercial funds. Large number of scientists are conducting researches on global warming and their conclusions are almost similar. This contradicts that results are skewed because of money poured in by the funders. Also nobody would ask someone to skew the result so that it proves that his way of life is threatening the existence of entire globe.
7. Human effect on carbon emissions are indistinguishable.
From the data we have, we can come up with the amount of CO2 released by volcanoes, oceans and sediments. Similarly we can easily calculate how much carbon dioxide is produced by burning a liter of oil. And we can keep the account of how many litres of oil that we use. Also we have accurate data regarding how much CO2 is being used up by the different types of plants. Moreover we have estimates of how many of each type of plants exist. It’s just a matter of collecting the data, and the collected data estimations all supports human effect on global warming.
8. Earth is not warming significantly.
It is true that the measured increase in global average temperature over the last century was about 1 degree F. But only if man made greenhouse gas emissions completely stopped immediately would the temperature increase over the next century be limited to 1 degree F. Scientists estimate that the average global temperature increase for the 21st century will be anywhere from 2.5 to 10.4 degrees F, based on the current trends in greenhouse gas output.
9. Varying solar radiation accounts more for Global Warming.
Another pointless argument. Recent study shows that sun is in a steady state now and will continue to be like this for next few millions of years. And the solar influx is also relatively stable. This obviously cannot accelerate the green house effect.
10. Natural processes like volcano eruption produce more carbon dioxide than human activities.
According to data collected from Volcanoes, on an average the entire volcanic activity is adding less than 0.05 Giga tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere annually. On the other hand human contribution is more than 8 Giga tons. World volcanic activity has not seen an increase for past couple of centuries. Volcanic eruptions releases tons of dust and other particulates to the atmosphere which gives a cooling effect. Hence volcanic activity has in no way contributed much to the global warming.
11. Mars is undergoing Global Warming. Why on earth its humans’ fault?
It has been detected by NASA’s Global Mars Surveyor that the south polar cap has shrunk significantly in the past Martian year.
A Martian year is 687 days which counts for two earth years. And what we have is only 3 data units. This data is indeed not enough to comment on the warming phenomenon on Mars. It has been detected that 95 percent of Mars’s atmosphere is made of carbon dioxide.
This CO2 condenses to ice and vaporises later based on the seasonal cycle. Hence the melting of southern polar ice caps can be concluded as regional climate transition only. The North Polar cap is presently un shrunk because it is undergoing late winter compared to the south one which is undergoing late summer.
Moreover Martian climate is more volatile than earth’s and hence quite sensitive to dust storm and orbital variations. Since other planets and their moons are not showing this warming effect Martian warming cant be considered as a valid point towards celestial warming.
12. Increased snowfall in some areas will suppress global warming.
Precipitation is regarded as an after effect of global warming. Regional climatic changes has got negligible effect on average earthly temperature. Global Warming is based on the average long term climatic trend. Hence snowfall in some areas cannot contribute to the suppression of global warming.
13. Advance weather predictions are always wrong. Why on earth should we have confidence in climate projections decades from now?
Climate prediction is fundamentally different from weather prediction. It is often more difficult to make an accurate weather forecast than a climate prediction. The accuracy of weather forecasting is depending on the current state of the global atmosphere. Climate prediction relies on other, longer ranging factors. Because of the same reason, climate changes can be studied using climate models and predictions can be made using this knowledge.
14. As the ozone hole shrinks, global warming will no longer be a problem.
Global warming and the ozone hole are two different problems. Ozone layer only helps in preventing harmful UV ( ultra violet ) radiations to be entering our atmosphere. It cannot help preventing heat entering the earth surface.
Global warming, on the other hand, is the increase in the earth’s average temperature due to the buildup of CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere from human activities.
15. Increased CO2 accelerates photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis requires more than just CO2; plants need water, sunlight and CO2 to make food. Thus by having more CO2 does not indicate plants will grow quickly than normal.
Conclusion:
No matter what skeptics say against global warming, it is obvious that human activities accelerate green house effect. The only way we can reduce global warming is by controlling carbon emissions. For that we need to educate more and more people on global warming and its impacts.
